Arkansas along with many other states has a wonderful stocking program on all species of trout and have had for years. The fish are a resource which provides countless hours of fun and recreation for all ages of people from around the United States. We all know that the stocking system is a "put and take system"......the fisheries put the fish in and the public takes the fish out. However, one of the by products of this system is the lack of big fish to be caught and it gets worse every year. When the average fisherman catches that 5-6-7 pounder they want to eat it or take it home to be mounted. The prudent angler knows about "replicas" and will pay a little more to have the replica made and put the fish back to fight another day. The mount will look much nicer and last much longer than the real fish. Bottom line the fish are taken from the water so quickly that the majority of them never get a chance to grow very much so you have a much more difficult time catching the true trophy. WHAT IF WE DID THIS......make BROWN trout catch and release only for 3 years.....go to a slot limit for 2 years then change it every other year from a catch and release only plan to a slot limit plan. Just think what that would do for the average size of the Brown trout you would catch. We try not to keep the Browns that we catch now but the insistent customer wins out in the end. The Rainbow stocking will take care of everyones limit when they fish as well as the popular shore lunches fixed along the river and they are plenty tasty. I am not saying this is a perfect plan but is a start in the right direction. Let those Brown trout grow and be the magnificent fish they are then you will really have some wonderful days on the White River that memories are made of!!!

Excellent idea! Keep pushing for the change. Blog looks good and glad to see you're writing articles to support better fishing plans for the rivers. I'm a big fan of catch and release! Your idea could make it even more important.
